Modified Bitumen Systems

A modified bitumen system, or MBS, represents a hybrid between BUR and single ply roofing. Sheets of asphalt-coated single ply are applied to the roof deck using heat welding or hot asphalt mopping. Installers then add a mineral-coated cap sheet to protect the lower layers or a layer of loose gravel to weigh the roof down and prevent wind damage.
