The fast action of Tim Johnson and Rob Detsch while on the job at Meadow Lake Elementary is an act of true heroism.
Tim was first on the scene of an accident involving an elderly woman who lost control of her vehicle.
It’s said that “actions speak louder than words” and in this case, the quick response of Tim Johnson to assist an elderly woman who was in a car accident in front of Meadow Lake Elementary (a current CRC project) is one example of his character, and his humbleness in taking credit for his heroism is a close second. In early July, Tim was in the front lot of the school working when he looked up to see a car speed through a four-way stop. It hit another car and then accelerated suddenly, racing another thirty feet, hitting and shearing off a fire hydrant, running over a homeowner’s fence and finally, crashing into a telephone pole, snapping it off at the base.

When Tim ran across the street to the still smoking car, it’s wheels were spinning and the driver was slumped over her steering wheel. He roused the semi-conscious driver and directed her to take her foot off the accelerator and to turn off her car. In Tim’s words, “when she hit the other car, she must of knocked herself out and stepped on the gas; sending her flying through the fence and breaking the telephone pole with her car. My first concern was getting the car turned off and making sure she was conscious.”
Rob hurried to the aid of an elderly woman who was involved in a car accident in front of a Central Roofing Company project site.
CRC’s Rob Detsch also assisted. Rob was right behind Tim when the accident happened. Because of the broken telephone pole — it was hanging up only by it’s wires— and the woman’s obvious confusion and injuries, Tim and Rob helped her from her car just as a police officer came on scene and an ambulance was called. Rob said, “It was the right thing to do. If my own mother was in an accident, I would want someone to help.”
Now, two weeks after the accident, the damage can still be seen. While the fire hydrant and telephone pole were repaired quickly, the fence and trees that were hit by the car are still tangled on the ground.
The car was propelled over 30 feet, hitting a fire hydrant, a homeowner’s fence and trees before breaking off a telephone pole.
Tim Johnson was nominated by his foreman, Andy Doherty, to be this month’s Featured Employee. He also calls Tim a hero. This story inspired us to change the name of our “Featured Employee” recognition to “’CENTRAL’ to CRC” because this company is nothing without the amazing people who work here and make it special.
